4 Days Nyungwe Chimps & Hiking Safari: Having 4 days for a Chimpanzee & Hiking safari in Nyungwe National Park is a great way to enjoy a deep exploration of the unspoiled forest. It starts with a road transfer from Kigali to Nyungwe so the participants will engage in chimpanzee tracking, canopy, and hiking Rukuzi trail. Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Nyungwe forest National Park

Considering that you will arrive at Kigali International Airport before noon, you will be picked up by your safari driver, have a meal at one of the hotels in the city and thereafter drive to Nyungwe National park where this safari will be conducted for the 3 nights. You will arrive in the late afternoon or evening depending on your time of arrival.

Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk in Nyungwe forest

Enjoy your breakfast and head to the park offices to attend a briefing along with other trekkers if they are available. Set off for the adventure with your ranger guides and trek around the forest in search of the great apes. Once they are spotted, you will stay with them, later return to the lodge for lunch and later go back to the forest for the canopy walk. It also starts with a briefing followed by a short hike connecting to the ladder that takes you to the bridge suspended over the forest. This adventure is a trip to remember with breathtaking views of Nyungwe forest, sightings of some of its wildlife residents and faith in facing fears for heights.

Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 3: Hike through the Rukuzi trail in Nyungwe forest.

After having breakfast, you will head out for a guided nature walk through Rukuzi trail. The activity starts with a short briefing that includes the guidelines to follow and the expectations while on the hike. When walking at a moderate speed, the hike takes about 5 hours and more for slow hikers. This hike gives you chances of spotting primates such as the Chimpanzees, colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys and others. You will also have great views of the surrounding landscape including Lake Kivu located at Rwanda’s border with D.R. Congo. In the afternoon, you will trek back and return to the lodge.

Day 4: Transfer back to Kigali.

Have breakfast, check out of the lodge and transfer to Kigali city. You have an option to go for a short city tour to places like the local markets, the Presidential Palace museum, and the Genocide Memorial Site. You will be dropped at airport and this will mark the end of the 4 Day safari.
