5 Days Uganda Gorillas & Wildlife Safari
5 days safari in Bwindi & Queen Elizabeth national parks is a special Uganda wildlife package designed to allow you take part in gorilla trekking and game drives, boat/launch cruise (game viewing). The package combines mountain gorilla encounter in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and game/wildlife viewing in Queen Elizabeth National Park.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a Uganda wildlife safari park located in Southwestern part of the country. This is a home to about 459 of the world’s 1063 mountain gorillas and has 20 already habituated gorilla families distributed in Ruhija, Nkuringo, Rushaga and Buhoma sectors.
Queen Elizabeth National Park a home to large mammals including the tree climbing lions set in Western Uganda. Of the 10 Uganda National Parks, Queen Elizabeth N/Park is the second largest spreading to cover 1978sq.kms of land area. It is famous for game tracks/trails offering absolutely incredible game viewing experiences including Kasenyi and Ishasha sectors.
Day 1: Kampala – Queen Elizabeth National Park.
Set in Western Uganda, Queen Elizabeth National Park is about 7 hours’ drive from Kampala and today, accessing it will be in a full-time 4×4 vehicle. The road trip to Queen Elizabeth NP starts as soon as breakfast and briefing is done in Kampala and you take Masaka-Mbarara route.
Driving for about 7 hours on Masaka-Mbarara route comes with advantages as you will make stopovers with the very first one at Equator crossing Kayabwe. After photo taking at Equator landmark, proceed to Igongo Cultural Centre to have lunch. Next will be to drive to the park to check into your lodge and as you drive, be sighting some wildlife.
Day 2: Queen Elizabeth National park – 1st game drive and afternoon launch cruise.
Positioned quite strategically in the heart of western Uganda, your game drive will begin early morning after breakfast taking 2-3 hours in your 4WD pop-up roof safari vehicle. Drive in 4WD via Kasenyi track, the best trail to spot lots of mammals such as bush elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, warthogs, lions, leopards plus birds.
Retreat from savanna game viewing in Kasenyi and settle for a leisurely lunch, after, transfer to Kazinga Channel to board a boat ready to start your afternoon launch trip. The long day launch of 2-3 hours lets you see hippos, water birds, Nile crocodiles and other wildlife.
Day 3: Game drive in Ishasha & transfer to Bwindi.
Have breakfast, after set off for yet another ultimate guided game drive via Ishasha to see tree climbing lions. In addition, there are lots of other animal species to keep an eye including birds then head off for Bwindi to check into the booked accommodation.
Day 4: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi, and Batwa community encounter.
After breakfast, the next thing will be transferring to any of the 4 Bwindi’s gorilla trekking regions (Nkuringo, Rushaga, Ruhija & Buhoma). The 4 sectors are ranger stations where briefing takes place and you are able to know gorilla trekking rules and also for park official to allocate a gorilla family to you.
The actual trekking to see mountain gorillas begins at 8:00am with experienced park guide leading you all through. Expect to spend 2-6 hours maneuvering through the forest in search for gorilla family and on locating it, only 1 hour will be for you to take photos, learn more about their behaviors, observe their body gestures etc.
You will summarize the evening with Batwa cultural walk to explore more about their lifestyles as original forest dwellers, traditions. Your experience includes entertainment as the Batwa will dance before you before you return to the lodge for relaxation and overnight sleep.
Day 5: Leave Bwindi impenetrable forest and return to Kampala/Entebbe.
From Bwindi National Park, start driving back and check out of the lodge. The journey takes about 8-9 hours on the road. En-route to Kampala, have lunch at a hotel in Mbarara then proceed to the equator, Mpambire Drum Makers to witness how traditional drums are made.
