3 Days Volcanoes Gorilla Trekking Safari : A short gorilla tour to Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda for the thrilling gorilla trekking experience. Going for this gorilla safari means tracking the apes at the world class gorilla destination. Volcanoes National Park has about 11 habituated gorilla families and also hosts golden monkeys which can as well be tracked on the same tour for gorilla trekking.
The safari starts with a pick-up from Kigali International Airport, followed by a transfer to Volcanoes National Park, and other activities of the trip include gorilla trekking, visiting the Iby’iwachu community and an optional Kigali city tour on day 3 before departure.
Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will meet our professional driver-guide who will lead you to a hotel of your choice within Kigali city for lunch and a little relaxation. Embark on the 2 hour drive northwards to areas around or near Ruhengeri park headquarters in Musanze region.
Check in to your booked lodge and relax, enjoy the breeze of the air and the scenic views of the neighboring features such as the magnificent Virunga mountains. Later, have dinner, spend some time of the evening in preparation of trekking on the next day and rest.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking in the Volcanoes National Park
This is the day every visitor is always waiting for during the 3 day gorilla safari in Volcanoes National Park. It kick starts with a delicious morning breakfast (at about 6:00am) and getting hold of your packed lunch followed by a transfer to the park headquarters for briefing. The briefing helps you understand what it takes to have an enjoyable gorilla trekking experience.
You will be put into groups of 8 trekkers and then assigned a specific gorilla family to trek. Under guidance of a guide / ranger, penetrate into the forest for gorilla trekking. Encountering gorillas depends on how fast you walk, where the gorillas spent their previous night and the far they will have moved in the morning. The activity can last for 2 to 8 hours.
Upon encountering the gorillas, you will be allowed one hour of staying with them and you can take photos, watch them play, feed and relax.
Return to your lodge for relaxation, dinner and the overnight.
Day 3: Visiting Iby’iwachu community, optional Kigali city tour and departure.
Day 3 of the great gorilla trekking safari comes with yet other interesting activities that will make the tour even more interesting. It starts with a morning breakfast before checking out of the lodge. Visit the Iby’iwachu community to learn about the culture of Rwandese and also enjoy an entertainment through their cultural music and dance. Head to Kigali city where you will have an optional tour around the city (determined by your departure time). You will have a lunch stopover at any hotel of your choice before making your way to Kigali International Airport for your flight back home.
