10 Days Best of Uganda Safari : If you are looking to tour the highlights of Uganda in 10 days, this safari will offer a wonderful experience. It will take you exploring four Uganda national parks; starting with Murchison falls national park to Kibale national park, then to Queen Elizabeth and Bwindi national parks before a transfer to Lake Mburo national park. Uganda is popular for her mountain gorillas which will be tracked in Bwindi. The tourism industry also boasts in a large population of chimpanzees in Kibale forest, where you will take an adventure to encounter them. Other things to do while on this 10 Day Uganda safari include game drives, boat cruises, rhino tracking and visiting local communities.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to hotel in Entebbe town or Kampala

After a warm welcome by our company representative, when you

.arrive at the airport, you will be led to the car and transfer to your booked hotel in Entebbe or Kampala. You will be given a brief of the next 9 days with focus on Day 2, and then you will have a meal and relax at the hotel.

Day 2: Transfer to Murchison falls National Park and a visit to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary.

After a good rest overnight, you will wake up to a morning breakfast, meet your safari driver and set off to Murchison Falls national park in northwestern Uganda. En-route, you will visit Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary in Nakasongola for rhino tracking, have lunch at the nearby restaurant and proceed to the park. Through Kichumbanyobo gate, you will head northwards and check-in to your lodge. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 3: Game drive, boat cruise and visit the top of the falls.

Take a morning game drive in the northern part of the park where most animals are seen because it is covered with savannah vegetation. The activity starts as early as 6:30 a.m. so that you can maximize the opportunity to spot predators including lions and leopards before they rest. Animals such as the giraffes, buffalos, Jackson’s hartebeest, Uganda kobs and waterbucks are commonly seen. Elephants can also be spotted in their herds while hippos returning to the water after feeding. Drive back to the lodge after about 4 hours of the game drive. Have lunch and go for the afternoon boat cruise on the Nile. This is another chance to see more wildlife including the Nile crocodiles, hippos and several water birds.

As you get to the end of the route, you will enjoy the beautiful views of the bottom of the falls. You then have an option of hiking to the top of falls or driving there but the most rewarding experience is hiking. The top rewards you with a wonderful view of the rainbow that is formed when water squeezes itself in a narrow gorge, where it also forms the powerful Murchison waterfalls. Drive back to the lodge.

Day 4: Transfer to Kibale national park 

Leave Murchison falls national park and embark on a long journey to Kibale national park in western Uganda. As a pretty warm welcome, the journey to the park may reward you with primate encounters like the colobus monkeys and olive baboons. You will arrive in the late afternoon or in the evening, check-in to the lodge, and relax. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 5: Chimpanzee tracking and community visit 

Chimpanzee tracking will begin immediately after briefing at Kanyanchu Tourist Center. As you walk through the forest, there is a chance to come across other primates and wildlife since the park is home to 13 primate species. Once the chimps have been spotted, you will have a precious one hour with them and head back to your lodge for lunch. Later in the afternoon, you will head out for a community tour at Isunga cultural community. This initiative was started with an aim of protecting wildlife and cultures for both Bakiga and Batooro at the edge of Kibale national park.

Day 6: Visit Tooro Palace in Fort Portal and drive to Queen Elizabeth national park 

You will have breakfast at your lodge before checking out. Visit Tooro palace in Fort Town and learn about the reason why it was parched on the hill where you will also enjoy the views of the region. It is an insightful visit to learn about the Tooro kingdom. From here, you will drive to Queen Elizabeth national park , have lunch and head for the boat cruise on Kazinga channel. This grants you an opportunity to spot crocodiles, hippos, elephants, buffalos, and warthogs and lots of bird species including pied kingfishers, egrets, long-tailed cormorants, pink-barked pelicans and African fish eagles among others. The boat cruise will last for 2 hours and after you will head to your lodge

Day 7: Game drive and head to Bwindi national park through Ishasha sector.

You will have a morning game drive in Kasenyi plains to look out for some of the animals of the park and there will be a chance to see Uganda kobs, buffaloes, elephants, hippos, lions, leopard and hyena among others. After about 4 hours of the drive, set off to Bwindi Impenetrable national park through the Ishasha sector where you could also spot the tree climbing lions. Check in to the lodge on your arrival.

Day 8: Gorilla trekking and Batwa community tour.

The highlight for this day are the mountain gorillas. You will wake up to an early morning breakfast, pack your lunch and head out for gorilla trekking. The adventure starts with a briefing at the trailhead starting-point, then you will enter the forest, search for the apes, and once they are spotted, you will have a precious one hour to observe them. Return to the park offices, pick your trekking certificates and drive to the lodge. Later in the afternoon, visit the Batwa community  at the edge of Bwindi forest, for an insight about their history plus entertain you with their cultural dances and music, take you through natural fire making experience. Back to the lodge for the overnight stay. 

Day 9: Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park.

Leave Bwindi for Lake Mburo NP in the morning and arrive there in the afternoon. The journey takes 6 to 7 hours covering a distance of 306km, you will have your lunch in Mbarara and might spot some impalas that are normally found grazing alongside the zebras and the Ankole long horned cattle. You will go for an evening game drive with chances of seeing giraffes, buffaloes, waterbucks, zebras and Uganda kobs among others.

Day 10: Game drive and boat cruise.

Wake up early and go for the morning game drive, through the savannah plains, taking about 4 hours and rewarding with lots of grazers. Expect to see different animals including impalas, zebras, elephants, buffalos, and warthogs among others.

Afternoon; You will go for a boat cruise on L. Mburo. The 2 hours launch cruise offers an opportunity to see hippos, crocodiles, and water birds  plus a beautiful landscape. Back to the lodge for your last night of the safari with us.

Day 10: Transfer back to Kampala with a stopover at the equator

Have breakfast and check out of the lodge and park, then transfer to Kampala with a stopover at a point where the equator crosses Uganda in Kayabwe. It is usually a beautiful time of photography, buying some souvenirs and maybe take part is watching the water experiment.

Proceed to Kampala and the driver guide will drop you either at the hotel or airport depending on the agreed point.
