How the Rwenzori marathon started

Organized with a vision to promote healthy living, boost tourism and support the local communities, the half marathon was launched in June 2022 at Margherita peak, the highest point of Uganda. Following several discussions by the running and tourism community in Uganda and the strong desire by both expert and amateur runners to race around the beautiful mountain foothills, the Tusker Lite Rwenzori marathon saw its birth.

The idea of the marathon is a social enterprise to promote tourism in the Rwenzori region. It is aimed at creating a world class racing event to celebrate the majestic and picturesque Rwenzori Mountains.

The first half marathon took place on 3rd September 2022 in Kasese while the second is scheduled for September 2, 2023 in the same district. It aims to attract 3,000 participants from Uganda and the rest of the world.
