7 Days Rwanda Safari Holiday

Visiting Rwanda is one of the ways of creating history of untold stories for generations. It is a way of creating memorable moments that can never be forgotten.

The 7 day Rwanda safari offers one of the best nature experiences to every travelers since it comes along with visiting Rwanda’s best national parks – Akagera ( proud home of the big five mammals), Volcanoes national park (mountain gorilla hub) and Nyungwe forest (the home of chimpanzees).

The safari starts with arrival at Kigali international airport, a tour around the city, transfer to Akagera and a boat cruise. This is followed by a morning game drive before transferring to Volcanoes national park for gorilla trekking and golden monkey trekking. You then go to Nyungwe forest for a spectacular chimpanzee experience accompanied by canopy walking adventure and return to Kigali for departure on the 7th day.

Detailed itinerary.

Day 1: Arrival and Kigali city tour.

Upon arrival at Kigali international airport, you will be picked up by our driver guide who will lead you on a short city tour. You will visit places such as the Genocide memorial Center and get to look at the remains of those who succumbed to the 1994 Rwanda Genocide.  You can as well visit local markets and get to see how the locals run business.

Go to a hotel / lodge of your choice for relaxation, dinner and spend a night.

Day 2: Transfer to Akagera National park and evening boat cruise on Lake Ihema.

After a morning breakfast, connect with your driver and embark on a 3 -4 hour journey to Akagera national park in the north East of Kigali East. The road is itself a fascinating experience since it comes with scenic views of the rolling hills, driving through green vegetation, trading centers, etc.

On arrival, check in to the lodge of your choice and have a delicious lunch as you relax.

In the evening, you will go for a boat cruise on Lake Ihema which will introduce you to aquatic animals such as hippopotamuses, crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes, t mention but a few.

Return to your lodge in the later hours of the day for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Morning game drive and transfer to Volcanoes National park.

After an early morning breakfast, go for a three to four hour morning game drive that will take you to the deeper parts of the park. It is only in Akagera where you can get an opportunity of seeing all the big five animals in one place. Other animals available include giraffes, zebras, hippopotamuses, Uganda kob, cape bushbuck, topis, oribis, roan antelopes, duikers, impala, cape eland, etc.

Return to the lodge for lunch before transferring to Volcanoes National Park.

Check in to the lodge of your choice near Volcanoes national park, have dinner and spend a night.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking – Volcanoes national park.

After an early morning breakfast, your driver will pick you up from your lodge (dare not to forget your box of lunch) and then drive you to Kiningi park headquarters for briefing. The warden will brief you about the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking, assign you a specific gorilla family and group you into 8 members per group as well as giving you a ranger guide. You are now ready to go. Trekking takes between 2 and 8 eight hours but it is worth the time.

In addition, you will meet other animals, primates, birds and plant species during the trek. Upon encountering a family of gorillas, you are given up to a full hour to spend in their presence as you watch them do life and take as many pictures as you wish as long as you are not using a flashlight camera.

Return to your lodge for relaxation and lip-smirking lunch.

You will spend the rest of the day enjoying the breeze of the park and can opt for a nature walk around the lodge as you see quite a number of bird species before returning to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Golden Monkey tracking and transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park.

We are now on day 5 which is a brand new day of the safari in the same national park. It is a day for seeing unique primate species – golden monkeys.

The activity is much like gorilla trekking since it starts with a morning breakfast, briefing at the park headquarters and then trekking.

You will return to the lodge for lunch and check out. Drive to Nyungwe Forest national park, check in to any lodge, have dinner and spend a night.

Day 6: Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk.

After a morning breakfast, meet your driver and got to the park headquarters for briefing. You will walk in the jungles of Nyungwe forest as you enjoy singing of different species of birds. Meeting chimpanzees depends on how fast you walk and where they spent the previous night – which is made easy by our professional guides who usually predict their location easily. You will be given a full hour after meeting them as you take pictures as well as watching them play, dine and mate. They give spectacular experience as they portray their climbing skills.

Meet your driver and go to your hotel for lunch.

After lunch meet a guide and go for canopy walking on top of Nyungwe forest. It is an opportunity for you to swing the top of the forest using the bridge that is 50 meter above the ground. It is a reliable bird viewing opportunity.

Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Transfer to Kigali – departure.

After a morning breakfast, meet your driver for a drive back to Kigali city. You can opt for a stopover at any craft shops and grab something to remind you of the trip. Continue to Kigali international airport for departure.
